A couple of my photos in June's Canadian Architect Magazine

A few of my photos of Capilano University's Film and Animation School (Cannon Design, 2012) are published in July's Canadian Architect. A few words from the article: "LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION! The first phase of a dramatic new building for Capilano University's film school establishes a landmark presence on a picturesque North Vancouver campus..."

This Month's Canadian Architect Magazine

Here is this year's Canadian Architect Awards of Excellence that some of my work has been featured in. Very exciting!

Lac LaBelle Cottage Design - Near Mt. Tremblant

NEW PHOTOS
Architectural Design & Photos By: Ladder Studios
Design 2010, construction 2010
Interior Design By Mercury Studio

This open, light filled cottage sets out to create a warm friendly atmosphere for entertaining, acting both as a Mount Tremblant ski chalet and a summer cottage on the lake. The interior is simple but meticulously thought through floor plan adds to the atmosphere of easy living. Expansive windows capture the serenity of the boreal forest, and views across the valley.

The contemporary take on a rustic yet simple exterior creates an affordable getaway with plenty of room for outdoor living. Local white cedar, stone and wood siding compliments the rocks, ferns and trees that cling to the sloping terrain.

Chandigarh House

Private Residence Near Chandigarh, North-West India
Concept design: 2011

The house for a Canadian-Indian man and his extend family is sited on a farm land on the edge of Chandigarh city, with the foothills of the Himalayas visible on the horizon. Chandigarh is one of the youngest cities in India, planned and built in the 1950s to reflect India’s contemporary aspirations.

To instil in a simple manner the concept that culture and its environment is inseparable, the original pattern was superimposed with an image of the Himalayan mountain range, resulting in an organically altered pattern. The sun shading screen (scripted with Grasshopper for Rhino) is not only the outer most layer of the house, the one that most visitors would first encounter, but also acts as the mediator between the local climate and the family’s indoor lifestyle.

1500 SFT House

Urban Infill Prototype
Design By: Ladder Studios

The average Canadian house has never been bigger, even though the average family size has never been smaller. Especially in housing developments, new home construction has become increasingly taxing on our natural resources, neighbourhoods and quality of life.

This 1500 square foot, three bedroom urban infill house takes advantage of tight, marginal spaces in established neighbourhoods. While making efficient use of space, this house re-establishes the relationship between necessity and luxury. Demonstrating that size isn’t everything, and quality can be affordable.
